Could Jets Trade for Mitch Trubisky? - Would Steelers Consider It?

Looking to make a splash this past offseason, the New York Jets decided to push their chips at the center of the table, as they acquired future Hall of Fame quarterback Aaron Rodgers from the Green Bay Packers in April. The trade ended the 18-year relationship, with Rodgers and the Packers.
On the night of September 11th, which was the Monday night opener, the Jets played host to their AFC East rivals, the Buffalo Bills. What was supposed to be a new era of Jets’ football turned into utter disaster, as Rodgers suffered a gruesome injury, in the very early stages of the game.
It was revealed that Rodgers had ruptured his Achilles tendon - placing him on injured reserve. He had the surgery two days later.
The injury to Rodgers has now forced to the Jets to go back to Zach Wilson, who they were looking to replace to begin with.
Through three games, Wilson has a registered a passer rating of 57.0, which is the worst of any quarterback in the league right now.
Reports came out on Tuesday that the Jets had signed free agent veteran QB Trevor Siemian to the practice squad.
If the Jets decide to explore a true, replacement at some point, for Wilson, then perhaps a name that they could look to inquire on is Mitch Trubisky.
After losing the starting quarterback job, for the Steelers last season, Trubisky finds himself as Pittsburgh’s QB2 behind Kenny Pickett this season.
The Jets having any level of interest in Trubisky would certainly make sense, as he not only provides veteran experience as a starter, but would give NYJ an upgrade over Zach Wilson. However, would the Steelers feel inclined to make a trade? What type of return would it take?
Trubisky’s current cap hit, with the Steelers, is a little over $6 million, which is second most among NFL backup quarterbacks. He also has a potential out, for 2024, with a cap hit of $8 million.
While that amount may seem like a hefty, price tag, for a reserve, it would be more reasonable, if Trubisky is back in a QB1 role.
Pickett continues to show growth, as the Steelers’ main signal-caller, which means it would take an injury, for Trubisky to replace him, just as we saw last year, when Pickett missed time, due to a concussion.
Pittsburgh still has Mason Rudolph on the depth chart. He is someone, who knows the system well, and has served in a QB2 spot before, so maybe that gives the Steelers a reason to make Trubisky expendable, especially if the Jets really have a desire to trade for him.
For me personally, as long as the Steelers can receive a respectable, trade return from the Jets, such as a fourth round draft pick for next year, to acquire Trubisky, then it would benefit the Steelers moving forward, as well as do Trubisky a favor.
